A USC School of Cinematic Arts Graduate Short Film

Welcome

Helen, an Ethiopian immigrant living in Los Angeles, is pressed by her family and tradition to take a decision as the moment approaches for her daughter’s genital cutting.

What to Bring to America was one of 3 short films selected to be made in USC‘s Fall 2010 advanced graduate fiction narrative class, after a competitive pitching process by the crew. It has won several awards, screened at various festivals, and was broadcast on Italian television in the summer of 2012.
